The Markstay-Warren Fire Department consists of three fire stations, Awrey, Markstay and Warren. We have a volunteer staff of approximately sixty-five firefighters, a Fire Prevention and Public Education Bureau of six inspectors and a Department Chaplain. Our Fire Department represents one of the largest fire services in the Sudbury and District Mutual Aid Association.


The Fire Chief is responsible to Council for the proper administration and operations of the Fire Services. The following are some of the services that are offered through the Fire Department:

- Smoke Alarm Programs
- Issuing Burning Permits
- Responding to Complaints
- Conducting Inspections
- Addressing Code Compliance
- Firefighter Training
- Public Assistance
- Community Events

Responses
On the average the Fire Department responds to an average of about 55 emergency calls per year. The following is a normal breakdown on the types of calls:
- Bush & Forest Fires 23%
- MVC’s 20%
- Structural Fires 14%
- Public Assist 11%
- Public Service 10%
- Alarm Investigations 9%
- Vehicle Fires 7%
- Fire – General 6%


Open Air Burning Bylaw

By-law 2016-36
1. g) "Fire Season" between the hours of eight o'clock in the evening (8:00 pm) and eight o'clock in the morning (8:00 am) from January to December 31 with the exception of the months of November 1st to March 31st where burning may commence at 12:00 pm (NOON) to 08:00 am.

4. b) set a fire or permit the setting of a fire or allow a fire to burn between the hours of eight o'clock in the evening (8:00 pm) and eight o'clock in the morning (8:00 am) for January 1 to December 31 with the exception of the months of November 1st to March 31st where burning may commence at 12:00 pm Noon  to 08:00 am, 

Fire Bans

There is currently no fire ban in the Municipality of Markstay-Warren.  

Residents are still reminded to take care when burning and follow the Municipal Bylaws.

Fire Permits

The fire season begins on January 1st and will remain in place until December 31st. If you plan to burn you are required to obtain a burning permit at the municipal office or at the Fire Stations.

Fees: Seasonal permits (1 year)  $100.00
All other permits (10 days) $25.00

Please be careful when burning. A moment of inattention can be costly!
