Community Economic Development Officer

2-year full time contract position (35 hours / wk)

The Community Economic Development Officer is responsible for facilitating, promoting and ensuring community and economic development in order to secure opportunities for economic and business development and increase local employment.

Eligible applicants must be unemployed or underemployed youth aged 30 and under and have graduated within the last three years with a degree, diploma or certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution, be legally entitled to work in Canada and have not previously participated as a youth intern in FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development Program or in any other deferral or provincial internship program.

The Community Economic Development Officer reports to the Chief Administrative Office and the Strategic Plan Steering Committee. Be responsible for facilitating community and economic development planning and initiatives; identifying and fostering community economic development opportunities; securing funding for economic development activities and programs; assisting local organizations, businesses and individuals with establishing economic development plans and projects; and promoting the community in order to expand economic development opportunities. The intern will be responsible to implement the goals found with the 2014 Markstay-Warren Strategic Plan. The Intern will be supervised by the CAO/Secretary and report monthly or as needed to the Strategic Planning Committee.

Qualifications and Skills

The incumbent must demonstrate the:

  • Effective verbal, presentation and listening communication skills

  • Computer skills including spreadsheet, work processing, graphics and website development programs at a highly proficient level

  • Stress management skills & time management skills

The incumbent must be able to attend night meetings and be able to work modified hours and in some situations may be requested to attend seminars or conferences that may require an overnight stay. The applicant must have a valid driver’s licence and means of transportation.

Salary:          $31,500 per year

SUMMER STUDENT JOB POSTING

Public Works Assistant - 1 position available
The Municipality of Markstay-Warren is precently accepting resumes for up to twelve (12) week maximum summer Student Position within the Public Works Department. A tentative start date for this position is as soon as possible.
Reporting to the Public Works superintendent or designate the successful applicants shall perform duties as associated with the maintenance of Municipal Outdoor Facilities and to assist in the delivery of Council approved Recreational Programs throughout the Municipality. The successful applicants shall have a valid Driver's license and be proficient in the use of a riding lawnmower, whipper-snipper, brush cutter, hand tools and other related duties. The successful applicants must be between the age of 15-30 years of age, not currently employed by the employer, eligible to work in Canada, willing to obtain and submit a current driver's abstract and criminal record check and must be returning to school in the fall of this year.

Ground Maintenance - Up to 12 weeks - 2 position available

It would be preferable that the successful applicants possess a valid Driver's license and be proficient in the use of a riding lawnmower, whipper-snipper and hand tools.
